When it comes to choosing a heating system, you may be trying to decide between a gas or electric furnace. There are some key benefits that an electric furnace offers that might make you decide electric is the way to go instead of gas heating.

Keep reading to learn about the benefits of an electric furnace and why you might want to invest in one for your home. Then give our team a call to schedule your electric furnace installation in Portland, OR. We can complete an in-home assessment to talk to you about how well an electric furnace would work in your home.

Ease of Installation

Electric furnaces are known to be very easy to install. Installing a gas furnace with the required gas line setup is a bit more work. This is because gas furnaces require both gas and electricity to operate.

With an electric furnace, all we have to do is connect the electrical wires for your source of power. If you already have a heat pump or other electrical system in place, upgrading to a new electrical furnace is fairly straightforward.

Consistent Heating

Electric furnaces are known to take longer to heat up compared to a gas furnace. However, the slower heating method means that your electric furnace is producing a more even and consistent air temperature. Once it achieves your set indoor air temperature, your electric furnace will do an excellent job of maintaining that temperature around the clock without major fluctuations.

The only potential downside is that when you turn off the electrical furnace completely, it may take longer to heat your home back up. So if you plan to be away from home traveling, we do recommend that you leave your electric furnace on, even if you do adjust the thermostat setting down some. This will ensure that your home maintains a consistent level of heat around the clock, even when you are away.

Simple Maintenance

Just like a gas furnace, you do have to schedule annual maintenance for an electric furnace. However, the key difference is that an electric furnace usually requires fewer actual maintenance steps during the appointment. Maintenance appointments can cost less and be quicker when you have an electric furnace.

This is because electric furnaces have straightforward operation and have fewer components to maintain compared to a gas furnace. We do still encourage you to turn your electric furnace off every once in a while, allow it to cool down, and then wipe down the inside cabinet.

It is possible for dust to build up inside and interfere with how well the electric burner works to heat your home. The simple step of wiping down inside the cabinet can help you prevent problems. Dust gets into the intricate gears and causes components to grind and wear down faster. Our team can offer a more detailed cleaning when we visit your home annually.
